10. Plan you communications with your solicitor
Of course, a major benefit of having instructed a solicitor is having their advice available on the phone when you need it. It is not always possible to predict when you are going to need to call for advice. When it is possible, however, or when it is not urgent that you speak to a solicitor right away, it can be very beneficial to pre-arrange agreed times to talk with your solicitor. Missed calls can cost, not only in yours and your solicitor’s time, but in legal costs. Furthermore, the time you spend on the telephone can be more efficient and productive if both you and your solicitor have had time to prepare for the conversation. It is not rocket-science, but such a small change can make a significant difference to your legal bill.
